A website specialising in excursions, Civitatis, has ranked the top ten most beautiful roads in Spain with the TF-21 through the Teide National Park coming on top.
According to the website which receives more than 200 million page views per year and more than 700,000 opinions, has drawn up a list of the most spectacular roads in Spain with the Tenerife road surpassing all the competition. Passing roads that cross landscapes as recurrent as the lakes of Covadonga or the access to Cabo de Gata.
Even though the TF-21 connects La Orotava with Granadilla de Abona through the Teide National Park, it is this section that has convinced the users of Civitatis to vote that the road is the most beautiful.
There are two main reasons why the road has ranked at the top of the list. On the one hand its route through the national park, passing through lava fields and flows, the spectacular backdrop of the strata mountains encircling the caldera and the endemic vegetation. On the other hand, the crowning glory of the Teide itself, standing at 3,715 meters high which generates an impact upon visitors with its imposing appearance.
Unfortunately, it is the only Canarian road that manages to sneak into the rankings. The rest of the list of the website is completed by the roads of the Lakes of Covadonga, in Asturias; of the swamps, in Madrid; Sa Calobra, in Mallorca; Cala D'Hort, in Ibiza; the lighthouses of Mola and Barbaria, in Formentera; Cabo de Gata, in Almería; the Jerte valley, in Cáceres; Cape Fisterra, in Galicia; and access to the so-called Devil's Bridge, in Tarragona.
