Spain has Extended Travel Ban on British Nationals for the Fourth Time.

For the fourth time now Spain has extended its travel ban on the arrival of British nationals until 5pm on March 16th.

Additionally, arrivals from Brazil and South Africa have also been included in this travel ban. The ban is in place to stop the spread of the associated variants discovered in the countries which have been proven to be more contagious.

Therefore the only groups of people who can arrive in Spain from the UK and both Brazil and South Africa are people who are Spanish nationals or people who can prove they were legally resident in Spain before January 1st 2021.

In the original ban, Spanish authorities were only accepting the new TIE card or green registro as proof of residency here in Spain. However, as problems have arisen the government has allowed other forms to be accepted as proof of residential status.

The following documents will now be accepted as proof of residency in Spain:

  • A residence card issued under Article 18.4 of the Withdrawal Agreement (the TIE – Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero).
  • In the absence of any of the above documents, other documents that credibly evidence your legal residence in Spain before 1 January 2021, such as a padrón certificate (issued by your town hall), a work contract, a rental contract, or proof of property purchase.
  • In the case of students, documentation that demonstrates enrolment in an on-site or in-person course and proof of accommodation.

Further to this documentation, it would be necessary to carry a valid and in date passport and also comply with other regulations such as a certificate proving a negative result from a PCR test.

Please check with your travel operator before departure to confirm all the necessary documents you may need.
