Covid Restrictions in Tenerife and Canaries.

The Canary Government has agreed and comfirmed that Tenerife will go down to the amber level in the traffic light system, whilst Gran Canaria will climb a level to the red traffic light.

Update January 25th

Because our Island has been steadily reducing its number of active coronavirus cases we have gone down a level to alert level 2, or the amber traffic light.

This means that from today Monday 25th January we are finally allowed to sit with 6 people in a restaurant or bar for example.

This new rule will also extend to indoor/outdoor sporting activities and also private spaces like our homes.

The Restrictions commence 25/01/21

·Curfew is continued from 23:00-06:00

·The maximum number of people allowed to get together in public/privates spaces be it your home or in a bar/restaurant has been increased to six, including family or friends.

·Sporting activities whether it be indoor or outdoor must be limited to 6, this includes and instructor or teacher and a minimum of 2meters interpersonal safety distance must be followed.

·Staff areas in work are limited to 50% capacit

·Public transport still limited to 50% capacity

·Hospital and medical centre visits are still limited at the discretion of the centre

·Places of worship are still limited to 50% and other means of congregation are recommended such as live video streams

·Facemasks to be worn at all times and places regardless of distancing by anyone over 6 years of age.
-Exceptions include, bathing and swimming in designated areas, eating or drinking, in personal cars singularly or with people you live with, medical conditions (proof needed), working or excercising where wearing a mask is impossible but you must carry one to wear as soon as the activity stops.

·2-meter interpersonal distance to be maintained where possible

·Smoking is prohibited in streets where you can not guarentee a safety distance of 2 meters.

·Gaming and Betting venues must stay closed.

·Nightclubs, Discos and Crowd events are banned.

Update January 17th

In the way of restrictions, there really is not much that has changed, the headline items include the curfew being reduced 1 hour, so will be 23:00-06:00, additionally with a limited capacity of 50% gyms can open, bars, cafes, restaurants can use their interiors.

These restrictions commence 18/01/21

·The maximum a group of people in any situation is 4, unless you are cohabitants.

·Curfew and limited movement of people.
-Every night you must stay indoors between the hours of 23:00 and 06:00. Exceptions to this rule are, to acquire medicines and health products in pharmacies, work reasons, going home, going to medical centres. Travel between municipalities is not recommended at all times.

·Cafes, Bars and Restaurants to close at 11pm.

·No more than 4 people per table, terraces limited to 75% capacity and indoor spaces limited to 50% capacity.

·Gaming and Betting venues must stay closed.

·Nightclubs, Discos and Crowd events are banned.

·Gyms to can open at reduced capacity of 50%, but individual open air sporting activities are permitted given you can gaurentee safety distance of 2 meters.

·Visits to patients in hospital are resumed.

·Public Transport limited to 50%.
-Other rules include no eating or drinking and adequate ventilation.

·Facemasks to be worn at all times and places regardless of distancing by anyone over 6 years of age.
-Exceptions include, bathing and swimming in designated areas, eating or drinking, in personal cars singularly or with people you live with, medical conditions (proof needed), working or excercising where wearing a mask is impossible but you must carry one to wear as soon as the activity stops.

Update January 14th

From Monday 18th at 00:00 hours the Island of Tenerife will go down one level to amber.

The Canarian Government has decided that relaxed regulations will come into force finally allowing cafes, bars, and restaurants to utilise their internal spaces, but at a reduced capacity of 50%.

Also, the new level allows for the curfew, (toca de queda) to be relaxed by one hour, so now you must be at home between 23:00 to 06:00.

When the BOC (Boletin Oficial de Canarias) is published I will update this page and link to the boletin.


January 7th

On Thursday January 7th the Government of the Canary Islands have set the next set of restrictions which come into force from Monday 11th January until and including Sunday January 24th.

However, as usual the Government will meet again to revise the restrictions on Thursday 14th January and amendments can be made given the developing situation within each individual island.

The current set of restrictions covering the christmas period are due to end Sunday night at 23:59 hours and we see the islands returning back to the traffic light system of restrictions. It has been decided that Tenerife itself remain in the "Red Traffic Light"

Each island is as follows, starting from red;
·Tenerife: Red
·Gran Canaria: Amber
·Lanzarote: Amber
·La Gomera: Amber
·Fuerteventura: Green
·La Palma: Green
·El Hierro: Green

Restrictions in Tenerife

I am only going to focus on Tenerife as after all this is "Tenerife Times" and I will update this page as the situation develops and try to maintain this as a location for finding the most recent restrictions.

These restrictions commence 11/01/21

·Restriction of exit and entry to Tenerife is maintained.
-Currently only Spanish nationals and people who can prove they have residency here may enter the island, given they can also prove with a PCR or TMA test that they are negative for Covid19.

·Curfew and limited movement of people.
-Every night you must stay indoors between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00. Exceptions to this rule are, to acquire medicines and health products in pharmacies, work reasons, going home, going to medical centres. Travel between municipalities is not recommended at all times.

·Cafes, Bars and Restaurants to close at 10pm.

·No more than 4 people per table.
-Additonally no service inside said establishments, service only on terraces. Food collection and delivery is permitted.
-Activities which promote crowd gathering or inclusion are prohibited e.g, Karaoke, live music on the other hand is at the discretion of the municipality.

·Gaming and Betting venues must stay closed.

·Nightclubs, Discos and Crowd events are banned.

·Gyms to remain closed, but individual open air sporting activities are permitted given you can gaurentee safety distance of 2 meters.

·Visits to patients in hospital are suspended.
-Except for children, pregnant women and other clinical situations deemed neccessary at the discretion of the physician.
-Surgical masks must be worn in medical centres.

·Public Transport limited to 50%.
-Other rules include no eating or drinking and adequate ventilation.

·Facemasks to be worn at all times and places regardless of distancing by anyone over 6 years of age.
-Exceptions include, bathing and swimming in designated areas, eating or drinking, in personal cars singularly or with people you live with, medical conditions (proof needed), working or excercising where wearing a mask is impossible but you must carry one to wear as soon as the activity stops.

·Smoking is prohibited in streets where you can not guarentee a safety distance of 2 meters.
