The canaries are the Fifth Region in Spain with the Least Deaths in the Last Seven Days.

The Ministry of Health reports 17 deaths in the last seven days which puts the islands behind Cantabria, La Rioja, Navarra and the Balearic Islands.

The report focuses on the week of February 19th to 26th, where 17 deaths have been recorded in the Canary Islands, behind Cantabria with 6 deaths, La Rioja and Navarra with 7 each and the Balearic Islands with 10 deaths. However, four more deaths were added over the weekend with three being on the final day of February and according to the Ministry of health, this puts the total figure at 589 covid related deaths in the archipelago. 

In the Archipelago there are 5,739 people infected with SARS-CoV-2, this is the lowest figure since December 22 of last year, when there were 5,646. Of those currently affected, 360 are hospitalized due to complications caused by the virus: 88 remain in intensive care units (ICU) and 277 are in the hospital ward.

However, on the last day of February, Tenerife recorded 56 new infections, where there are some 2,353 active cases which is 41 percent of the region. Whereas in Gran Canaria they have recorded 2,871 active cases, putting the island 9 percent higher than Tenerife, making it, for the moment, the island with the greatest presence of Covid19. 

In Lanzarote, the island has 253 active cases, Fuerteventura with 208. La Palma currently has 26 active cases and El Hierro has 23, with La Gomera down to just five cases.
