A time-lapse video recording by J. J. González Alemán on Twitter @glezjuanje shows the “Hat of Teide” through the day and night cycle and it is pretty impressive.
The Hat or “Sombrero del Teide” is a particular cloud formation named ‘lenticular altocumulus’ and usually forms when there are winds and humidity at that altitude. This could potentially indicate that unstable weather is approaching. A Canarian saying goes like this “cuando el se pone sombrero, habrá lluvias y aguaceros” or in English, when the Teide wears a hat, there will be rains and downpours. With this recent weather warning, it looks like the old saying stands true.See the video for yourself:
