New Alert Levels Announced for Some Canary Islands.

Blas Trujillo, Minister of Health has confirmed today the new alert levels which commence from midnight tonight. With Tenerife going up to level two and Gran Canaria down to level two.

It is not surprising that Tenerife is going to go back to Level two, with an upward trend in new cases of the virus which yesterday saw Tenerife have double the cases of new infections compared to Gran Canaria (55 in Tenerife versus 25 in Gran Canaria). Even though Tenerife was in level one, the extra restrictions put in place for Carnival made it a pseudo level one and did not get to enjoy the benefits of level one.

Gran Canaria has been showing a good downward trend in new cases and it comes, again as no surprise, that the island should see it's alert level dropped from three to two. This would have probably happened when the carnival restrictions were put in place, but the government sided on safety and kept the island st level three, but finally they can enjoy level two.

Lanzarote will remain at alert level four, but this will be revised again in a week's time. Hopefully by next week the island can see it's restrictions loosened a little and the curfew raised to 10pm.

Other movements include Fuerteventura and El Hierro dropping down to level one, where they will join both La Palma and La Gomera, both of which remain at level one.
