Four found dead from a cayuco in El Medano.

Four men have died in a cayuco that arrived this morning at the Cabezo beach in El Médano in the south of Tenerife.

At around 4:30am the cayuco had reached the coast with three dead bodies onboard., but unfortunately as the boat washed upon Cabezo beach another man died from a heart attack as medical teams tried to revive him.

Emmergency services were first made aware of the cayuco when people who were camping in a motor home along the coast had heard people screaming for help.

Health teams were dispatched to the beach, assessed and treated the immigrants well into morning, around 7:30am. Sadly the 4 deceased victims are the first know casualities of 2021 to cross what is known as the 'canary route'. Last year it is claimed to have almost taken 600 lives, this is according to the data from UN International Organization for Migration.

Also on the same day another cuayuco had washed upon the shores of Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, this was at around 3:15 according to the Red Cross.
